Gosford is a city located 76km north of the Sydney central business district to the north of Brisbane Water. It has a population of around 4,000 people but has been identified as a growth area under the NSW Metropolitan strategy.

History

The Gosford area was inhabited by the Guringai indigenous people until white settlement began around 1823 following explorations in the late 1780s.

In 1825, the population of the growing town was around 100, with 50% of the populace made up by convicts who lived and worked on the land. The area has a long history of agricultural use on account of the rich soil left after timber harvesting.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today, the city centre has a vibrant shopping and community precinct, centred along the William Street Mall. This strip boasts a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and services.

The Central Coast Stadium is home to the A-League soccer team, the Central Coast Mariners.
