Emu Plains is a suburb in the City of Penrith, located 58km from the Sydney CBD. Its population is 8,097 and the suburb is located west of the Nepean River, at the foot of the Blue Mountains.

History

Before the Europeans settled in Australia, Emu Plains was on the border of the Darug people and the Gandangara people. The first British explorers arrived in 1790, and a convict labour farm was established in 1813. By 1833, the farm had closed down and the land was sold to make the Emu Plains village.

With its rich history, it’s no surprise there are unique sights to see in Emu Plains. This suburb is home to the Penrith Regional Gallery, and the Emu Plains post office, a beautiful sandstone gothic cottage. With its close range to the Blue Mountains, Emu Plains is often a stopping point for daytrippers. The main commercial centre of Emu Plains is Lennox Village.
