Cromer is a waterfront suburb of northern Sydney, NSW. It is 20 kilometres north-east of the Sydney CBD. It has a population of over 7,100.

History

The area was once home to the Guringai or Dharug people. Aboriginal rock engravings are visible at Cromer’s Wheeler Creek today.

Following European settlement, Cromer was first called Dee Why West. It became ‘Cromer’ in 1940 when the Cromer Country Club bought Dee Why Golf Links. The club’s namesake is the seaside town of Cromer in Norfolk, England.

Cromer’s natural beauty makes it a popular spot for outdoor pursuits. The suburb is on the banks of Narrabeen Lakes. It has many creeks and waterways.

Cromer is home to many beautiful parks, reserves, and sporting grounds. Dee Why West Recreation Reserve offers bush walking, and trail- and mountain-biking. Other parks in Cromer include Truman Reserve and Inman Park.

Cromer is home to archery club the Warringah Archers. The club hosts tournaments for archers from all over Sydney. Other sports played year round include rugby union and cricket. Soccer, touch football, baseball, and softball are also played.
