Cremorne is a Sydney suburb found 6km north of the central business district. It has a population of over 11,000.

History

Cremorne was once home to the Cam-mer-ray-gal group of the Ku-ring-gai tribe. The suburb’s name comes from the London theme park Cremorne Gardens.

Cremorne boasts many beautiful buildings built in a variety of styles. The large California Bungalow ‘Belvedere’ is heritage-listed at both State and Federal levels. Built in 1919, it is the work of architect Alexander Stewart Jolly.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Cremorne is largely residential with a booming commercial centre. The Cremorne Town Centre has a supermarket, travel agent, and restaurants.

The Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace is Cremorne’s historic cinema. Built in Art Deco style in 1935, it was fully restored to its former glory in 1987. The beautiful cinema is a popular attraction and plays an eclectic variety of films. This includes new releases, sing-alongs, art house pictures and classics.
