Coogee is a suburb of the City of Randwick, located 8km south-east of Sydney’s central business district. It’s a coastal suburb with a thriving beach, and has a population of more than 14,000.

History

Established in 1838, Coogee soon developed into one of the east coast’s most popular seaside destinations. The Coogee Palace Aquarium opened in 1887, and 1907 saw the foundation of the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club. It was one of the first groups dedicated to protecting people from the surf’s perils, and has famously never lost a life while on patrol.
