The town of Condobolin has a population of more than 3,700 people. It is found in western NSW on the Lachlan River.

History

It owes its name to the original Aboriginal inhabitants of the area. They named the town after the shallow crossing located on the river nearby.

Early European settlers included John Oxley and Thomas Mitchell. Official settlement of the area did not begin until the 1880s. The railway’s arrival in 1898 lead to large growth in the population, as well as success at nearby gold mines.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Condobolin remains an important farming town with the production of crops including wheat and barley. Sheep and cattle rearing is also a major industry.
The town hosts the popular Condo 750, a two-day rally that attracts visitors from all over the country. The course includes a mix of public and privately owned roads and tracks.
