Collaroy is a suburb in New South Wales that offers locals a great outdoor lifestyle. It has a population of over 14,000 and is part of the Northern Beaches region.

History

The suburb was once part of Narrabeen. It was renamed after the collier S.S. Collaroy beached his ship during a storm in 1881. The ship went back out to sea and wrecked on the Californian coast in 1889.

Bad weather stripped many homes of backyards in 2016. Some houses near the beach were left in danger of collapse.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Collaroy has a surf beach that joins Narrabeen Beach. The suburb offers great golfing and family parks with ocean views. When it comes to shopping, Collaroy has a precinct that includes cafes, restaurants, takeaways, hairdressers and a cinema.

There is also one of the largest Salvation Army conference and education centres in the area.
