Chippendale is a small town just 2km south of the Sydney central business district. It is home to a just over 4,000 people.

History

The area on which Chippendale now stands was once home to the Gadigal indigenous people who belonged to the Dharug Nation. They were moved once white settlement began.

One of the first settlers was William Chippendale who was granted land in 1819. He later sold his estate to an emancipist called Solomon Levy but the area proudly bears his name to this day.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Chippendale is known for being a hotbed of arts activity with over a dozen small art galleries in the town’s 0.7km² area. There are also many creative events which take place throughout the year such as the Beams Festival.

Chippendale rubs shoulders with Sydney’s central business district and the eastern side of town has a number of offices, restaurants, cafes and pubs.
