History

Castlereagh is one of the five Macquarie towns in Australia. These towns all played an important part in the fledgling colony of New South Wales. The name Castlereagh comes from a town in Northern Ireland. Agriculture thrived in the area after several towns were moved to higher ground to avoid the effects of flooding. The earliest European settlement, Hadley Park, is still standing.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Castlereagh is home to a number of historic and heritage-listed buildings. Nepean Park is a Georgian building from 1822, and found near Hadley Park on Castlereagh Road. Both make great days out, with plenty of churches and other buildings to visit as well. Enjoy dinner afterwards at one of the local restaurants.
