Casino is a town on the banks of the Richmond River. It has a population of 9,269 and is the site where the Bruxner Highway meets the Summerland Way.

History

Casino takes its name from Clarke Irving’s Casino Station. The station, in turn, borrows its name from the Italian hill of Monte Cassino. Casino has a sister city agreement with its European namesake.

The town has always been a hub for the cattle industry. Along with Rockhampton, it is one of two claimants to the title of “Beef Capital of Australia.”

Today, Casino’s tradition of beef farming continues. The town is one of Australia’s largest beef centres. It sits surrounded by rich farmland. Every year, residents and visitors to Casino celebrate Beef Week.

Casino is served by a number of public transport links. These includes the North Coast railway line, as well as Lismore Airport.
