Based in New South Wales, Carlton is a suburb in Sydney’s South. It falls under the Bayside Council and Georges River Council. Carlton lies 15km south of Sydney’s Central Business District. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 9,800 people. Carlton neighbours Bexley, Allawah, and Kogarah Bay.

History

Carlton used to be a heavily timbered area. It was part of Captain John Townson’s grant.

In 1884, a railway line to Hurstville opened. As a result, many people began moving to the area. That said, a platform at Carlton wasn’t built until 1889.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

These days, Carlton is a residential area. There are plenty of parks. These include Jubilee Oval, Kogarah Park, and Tinsdale reserve.

The St George Illawarra Dragons National Rugby League calls Carlton home. WIN Jubilee Oval is their home ground.
