Campsie is a suburb of south-western Sydney, 13 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district on the southern bank of the Cooks River. It has a population of over 21,000.

History

Campsie was named after the parish of Campsie in Stirlingshire, Scotland, and was originally used for farming. The southern parts of the suburb were part of the Laycock estate extending to most of Kingsgrove. The area between south Campsie and the river was known as the Redman estates after John Redman was granted 100 acres in 1812 and purchased 200 acres in the east of the area in 1817.

These days, there is a rich Asian community in Campsie, with many Chinese and Korean families. The main shopping centre, Campsie Centre, has many supermarkets, speciality shops, cafes, and a library.
