Cammeray is a suburb located just 5km from the Sydney central business district. It is a mostly residential suburb with a population of around 7,000 people.

History

Cammeray takes its name from the Cammeraygal, an Aboriginal tribe who once lived in the area. The town played an important part in Sydney’s history with its quarry providing much of the sandstone which went into the construction of the first buildings in the city.

The town was once home to the Australian politician Joseph Palmer Abbott who built a stunning mansion there called Tarella in 1886. The mansion still stands to this today and is listed with the Heritage Council of New South Wales.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Cammeray has a picturesque waterfront area called Willoughby Bay which is home to a marina where many cruising yachts are moored.

Elsewhere, there is a busy commercial area on Miller Street and a number of beautiful parks including Tunks Park.
