The suburb of Camellia is 23km outside of Sydney’s CBD and it was once a thriving industrial area. It has since been marked as a brownfield site for houses and the population is steadily growing.

History

Before the first settlers arrived in Camellia, the area was home to the Burramattagal people. They lived off the animals that inhabited the waterways and forests close to the River.

The first settlers were farmers and the area was a good option for them due to the supply of fresh water. The railway station opened in 1885 and the region later continued to develop as an industrial area including an asbestos plant.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The area is still growing as a housing area and there is now a supermarket in the office building close to the railway station. Travel into Camellia is provided by the Carlingford Railway Line and there are good links to the major road network.
