Bulahdelah is a country town in the Hunter/Mid North Coast region of New South Wales. It lies 235km north of Sydney and is on the banks of the Myall River. The population is 1,519.

History

Bulahdelah is an aboriginal word derived from ‘Boolah Dillah’ meaning ‘the great rock’. The Worimi Aborigines lived in the area many years ago and gave this name to the mountain that overlooks the land. In the 1870s, Bulahdelah Mountain was mined for alunite and is now commonly known as ‘the Alum Mountain’.

In 1970, Australia’s most destructive tornado on record swept through the area of land just north of Bulahdelah.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bulahdelah is a great base to explore the stunning Myall Lakes National Park. The area offers a range of activities including bushwalking, fishing and boating. The area is a habitat for pelicans, koalas, sea eagles and kangaroos.

The most significant building in Bulahdelah is the old courthouse which was built in 1886. It is now home to the Bulahdelah Historical Society.
