Based in in New South Wales, Budgewoi is a suburb on the Central Coast. The suburb is 11km north of Sydney’s Central Business District. According to the 2001 census, Budgewoi has a population of over 3,100.

History

The origin of Budgewoi’s name is open to debate. Some sources say the original name of the area was “Pudgeway”. This is an native word that means “young grass”. However, local historian, Bruce Russell, says the name was Budjeri. This is an native term meaning “good conditions”.

The suburb was originally used for agriculture and the grazing of cattle. However, by the 1930s, Budgewoi became a holiday destination for families.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Budgewoi has grown over the past decade, and visitors have lots to see. Water enthusiasts love the fact that the town is surrounded by water. Lake Munmorah, Budgewoi Lake, and the Pacific Ocean offer soothing water views.

In 2005, Budgewoi opened a Coles supermarket. This drew more consumers to the suburb. The local pub invested in major renovations, and is a lively music venue. The pub is a strong supporter of local artists.
