Bronte is a suburb of Sydney located on the beach. 8km east of the CBD in the Waverley Council local government area of the Eastern Suburbs, it has a population of around 7,000.

History

Robert Lowe, who later became Viscount Sherbrooke, purchased 42 acres of land from the colonial architect Mortimer Lewis. In 1845, he completed his home and named it Bronte House. This was in honour of Lord Nelson, who was the Duke of Bronte, in Sicily, Italy.

Bronte Beach site on Nelson Bay and is surrounded by Bronte Park. The suburb was declared the best of Sydney’s 641 suburbs by the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Suburbs Guide.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Because of its beachside location, there are many scenic cliff-top walking opportunities to discover. These offer views that extend from Ben Buckler to Malabar. The suburb is also located 2.5km south of Bondi Beach. Surfing is an important part of Bronte’s culture.
