History

In 1770, Captain James Cook landed the Endeavour at Botany Bay. In his journals, the bay was referred to as Sting Rays Harbour and Botanist Bay. Later, the two were combined to form the name it has today.

If you’re a self-confessed beach lover, then you’re in luck here. Botany can be found on the north shore of Botany Bay, so sand and surf are easy to find. There’s also a large park that’s home to Sir Joseph Banks Pleasure Gardens, an ideal spot for young children.
