History

An orphanage was built in Bonnyrigg in 1803. This Georgian house is now one of the listed buildings on the Register of the National Estate. The suburb was named after Bonnyrigg in Midlothian, Scotland.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

A new housing scheme is being unrolled in Bonnyrigg, and this will lead to the regeneration of the town centre. Estimates suggest that over 3000 people will move to the area by 2022. Bonnyrigg boasts a shopping centre as well as a number of community facilities such a library. One of the biggest Chinese Buddhist temples in the Southern Hemisphere is also in Bonnyrigg. The temple is open daily and it welcomes visitors.
