Based in New South Wales, Blackett is a suburb in Sydney. It lies 48km west of Sydney’s Central Business District. Blackett falls under the City of Blacktown and lies in the Greater Western Sydney region. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 3,400 people.

History

Blackett is named after George Forster Blackett. From 1820 to 1830, he was the Superintendent of Rooty Hill’s Government Cattle Station.

During the 1960s and 1970s, public housing was built in the area. These houses are now coming under private ownership.

Blackett has two public schools. These are Blackett Primary School and Niland Special School.

This residential suburb does not have much commercial activity. There is a small shopping complex for residents. This has a general store, butcher, bakery, and take-away shop. Locals usually travel to Mt Druitt and St Marys for their shopping needs.
