History

Beverley Park was once swampy, low-lying land. It was part of Kogarah. From 1900, local politicians wanted to develop the area as a recreational park. The idea stalled several times. Meanwhile, the land was used for market gardening.

Work finally began in the 1930s. This included residential development around the park and golf course.

Sunnyside is a fine example of historic sandstone houses in the area. It still stands on the Princes Highway.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb still takes its character from the recreational park at its centre. It has a diverse population. There is a large Greek community and a smaller Chinese community.

The St George Leagues Club is a bustling entertainment venue in the area.
