Based in New South Wales, Berrilee is a semi-rural suburb in Northern Sydney. It lies 38km north of Sydney’s Central Business District. Part of the North Shore region, it falls under Hornsby Shire. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 335 people.

History

The name “Berrilee” is said to come from the indigenous word “Buraillee”. This word might have something to do with “food” or “mouth”. Other historians believe Berrilee comes from the Dharug word “burra”. This means “place of kangaroos”.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

This small area has few commercial features. There is one store in Arcadia, and another in Berowra Waters. However, there are no stores in Berrilee. The area used to have a primary school, however it closed down in 1957 because there were only seven students.

Berrilee is home to the Darling Mills Farm and Neales Storage. The Berrilee Bed and Breakfast offers a place for visitors to stay.
