Berkshire Park is a suburb of Sydney in the local government area of the City of Penrith. 55km from Sydney, it has a population of over 1,700.

History

The suburb is believed to have gotten its name from Berkshire, a county in England. In 1838, the land was given to the Australian politician, Richard Rouse, as a land grant. It is thought that he chose the name Berkshire because he was married in North Hinksey, England, which was then in the county of Berkshire.

On 1 May 1936, Berkshire Park Post Office opened. It later closed in 1961.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to a large recreational area. Part of this area is a reserve for the public and features a children’s playground and seating areas.

Other features of the suburb include a public hall, Berkshire Park Rural Fire Brigade, a waste management centre, a pet cemetery, and a racehorse education centre.
