Belfield is a small suburb in the inner-western area of Sydney which has a mixture of residential and commercial areas. It is home to a population of over 6,000 people and is located just 14km from the Sydney central business district.

History

Belfield’s name is derived from its position between two neighbouring suburbs called Belmore and Enfield. The names were combined to create ‘Belfield’ and the name first appeared on records in 1930.

Most of the houses in the area were built following World War II but there are also several streets named after World War I sites such as Persic Street, Bazentin Street and Mena Street.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Belfield is a quiet town but has a small shopping area on Burwood Road which also has restaurants, a post office and a hotel. Rudd Park provides a nice spot for recreation and is home to the Belmore Eagles soccer club and two tennis courts.
