History

Bass Hill is named after an explorer who arrived on HMS Reliance in 1795. George Bass was also a surgeon, and was granted land in 1798. He sailed around Botany Bay and the Georges River. Bass Hill was also known as Irish Town because of the large number of Irish settlements. It officially became Bass Hill in 1924.
