Auburn is a Sydney suburb 19km west of the central business district. It has a population of 33,000. Once used as a thriving marketplace by Indigenous Australians, the area is rich in history.

History

Auburn was first founded by free settlers in 1793 as a farming community. These days, the suburb is very diverse. It’s the site of both the Auburn Gallipoli Mosque and the Sri Mandir, Australia’s first Hindu temple.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Auburn has a large commercial area with many shops and restaurants. It’s home to the lovely Botanic Gardens, where the Autumn Colours and Cherry Blossom festivals draw great crowds. The Peacock Gallery and Auburn Arts Studio are in the Gardens. They host many artistic events throughout the year.
