Artarmon is a suburb on Sydney’s North Shore. It’s 9km north-west of the central business district, and forms part of the City of Willoughby local government area. Artarmon has a population of more than 8,600.

History

In the 1790s, the land that would become Artarmon was divided up and given to soldiers and former convicts. The main farm in the area was owned by William Gore, who called it Artarmon after his family’s Irish estate. The emerging suburb was named Artarmon too, and developed steadily around the farm. A church was built in 1871, and a post followed in 1909.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

A well-developed suburb, Artarmon features numerous shops and amenities. Retail options include a Bunnings, Home HQ, and Barbeques Galore, as well as various car dealerships. A small industrial area is present in the suburb, although it’s mostly lush and residential. The SBS studios are based here too, and the annual Artarmon Fair brings in many visitors.
