Annandale is a suburb in New South Wales that boasts lots of character and charm. It’s located 5 kilometres west of Sydney’s central business district and has a population of over 8,000.

History

Major George Johnston arrived in the area on a ship that brought convicts to Australia from England. He was given 100 acres of land, which became known as Johnston’s Bush. He decided to rename the land Annandale after his place of birth, Annan in Scotland, UK.

George’s son later inherited the estate and sold it to a man called John Young, who turned the area into an attractive suburb. Some of the houses became known as witches houses, as their towers looked like witches hats.

Annandale is a sought after area with a good selection of shops and cafes. There is a wonderful mix of modern and historic buildings in the suburb, which adds to Annandale’s charm.
