Airds is a suburb in Sydney, 56km southwest of the CBD. Part of the Macarthur region and in the local government area of the City of Campbelltown, it has a population of over 3,500.

History

Airds was named by Governor Lachlan Macquarie after the Scottish family estate of his wife, Elizabeth Campbell. The name originally referred to almost the entire area between Gilead and Glenfield. After other settlements began to be known by their own names after the 1820s, the name fell into disuse.

The suburb is mostly a residential area. It is considered one of the most socially disadvantaged of Sydney. The recent Airds Bradbury Renewal Project aims to make the area a great place to live with many services and facilities.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to the John Warby Public School, the Briar Road Public School, and Airds High School. It’s also home to A B Central, a hub for community renewal activities and projects.
