History

Torrens takes its name from Sir Robert Torrens, a former South Australian Premier. Established in 1966, Torrens is considered a young suburb. Little is known of its history.

Visitors will notice that the town’s streets take their names from South Australian pioneers.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Canberra Nature Park borders the town to the south. The Mt Taylor Nature Reserve fills the western skyline.

Torrens has a small shopping centre, containing basics like a newsagency. There is also a local oval. The area’s main school is Torrens Primary School.
