Monash is a suburb of Canberra with about 5,500 inhabitants. It lies in the Tuggeranong district and covers an area of 3.41km².

History

Monash got its name from Sir John Monash, a military commander and engineer. He was in charge of the Australian army in France during the First World War. Many of the streets in Monash were named after engineers. The suburb became an official settlement in the late 1970s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Monash is a quiet residential area with many detached houses and suburban blocks. It is home to Isabella Pond as well as to a section of Tuggeranong Creek.

You can find everything you need for day-to-day life at the local shopping centres including Erindale Shopping Centre and the close-by Tuggeranong Hyperdome. The town also has its own primary school, a retirement centre, and a recreation centre.
