Melba is a residential suburb in the ACT. In the Belconnen district of Canberra, it has a population of 3,200 people.

History

Set up in 1972, Melba is named after the first world-famous opera soprano from the country, Dame Nellie Melba (1891-1931). The streets are all named after singers, composers, or other musical people from the country, or who have strong links to the country.

For the Australian federal elections for the House of Representatives, Melba is in the Fenner. For the ACT elections for the ACT Legislative Assembly, Melba is in the Ginninderra electorate.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to a government-run primary school, Mt Rogers Community School. It is also home to a merged secondary school, Melba Secondary School. This school combines Melba High School and Copland College.

Next to the playing fields, there is the Melba Tennis Club which has eight courts. Annabel Ellwood was a former member of this club.
