McKellar is a residential suburb in the Australian Capital Territory in the Belconnen district of Canberra. It has a population of around 2,800.

History

McKellar is named to honour the Minister for Repatriation from 1964 to 1970, Colin McKellar. The name was gazetted on the 15th of January 1974.

The main street in the suburb is called Dumas Street. The streets in McKellar are named after journalists. It is serviced by the ACTION bus network which runs along Dumas Street and William Webb Drive.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to the McKellar Oval in the centre and has panoramic prospect from Mt Ainslie to Black Mountain and Mt Majura.

McKellar features a pre-school and a shopping centre. To the north-east, there is also a small football stadium and club called the North Belconnen Soccer Club.
