Lyneham is a suburb in Canberra in the North Canberra district. It has a population of around 4,500.

History

Lyneham was named to honour Sir William Lyne. He was the premier of New South Wales from 1899 to 1901. In 1928, the suburb name was gazetted although development did not start until 1958.

The streets are named after people and artists who were important to the development of early Canberra.

Lyneham has seen a lot of change since it was set up. The older homes built in the late 1950s today sit beside modern townhouses. Individual blocks are being gentrified by either demolition, extensive renovation, or rebuilt homes.

The suburb has a scenic wetland, established gardens, and leafy streets.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to many nature parks and bushland attractions. It’s also the location of popular cafes including the famous Tilley’s Devine Café and Gallery. Sporting facilities include the National Hockey Centre.
