Based in the ACT, Greenway is a residential suburb. It lies in the Tuggeranong district of Canberra. Greenway sits next to the suburbs of Kambah, Wanniassa, Oxley, Monash and Bonython. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 1,400 people.

History

Greenway takes its name from the architect, Francis Greenway. Born in England in 1777, he came to Australia as a convict. Working in New South Wales, he became Australia’s first government architect.

In 1986, Greenway achieved gazetted status. Visits will notice that the suburb’s streets are all named for architects. This is a nod to the town’s namesake.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

It includes the Tuggeranong Town Centre and Lake Tuggeranong. The residential areas line the northwestern and northeastern shores of the lake.

The Urambi Hills Nature Reserve is behind the suburb. The Murrumbidgee River runs behind the town.
