Duffy is a Canberra suburb located in the city’s Western Creek district. It’s around 14km south-west of the central business district. Duffy is mostly residential, with a population of more than 3,200.

History

Duffy was first established as its own suburb in 1970. It was named after Sir Charles Gavan Duffy, KCMG. An Irish-Australian poet, journalist and politician, Sir Duffy was the eighth Premier of Victoria, serving from 1871 to 1872. In 2003, Duffy made headlines due to the bushfires that raged around Canberra. With over 200 homes destroyed, Duffy was the suburb worst affected by the disaster.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

A well-equipped residential area, Duffy has various amenities to keep its residents in good stead. It features two schools, several churches and various parks, including Narrabundah Hill and the Duffy Neighbourhood Oval. The suburb has its own small shopping centre, as well as a coffee shop and a popular Chinese restaurant.
