Curtin is a suburb in the Australian Capital Territory. It is part of the Woden Valley district and little a little over 5km to Canberra CBD. The population of Curtin is 5,175.

History

Curtin celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014. The suburb takes its name from John Curtin, a former Australian Prime Minister. Street names are named after State Premiers.

The first homes were built in Curtin in 1964. Some areas of the suburb are designed based on the Radburn model of suburban design and public housing. As a result, Curtin enjoys a lower rate of antisocial and crime-related issues compared to other suburbs.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Curtin Shopping Centre provides the community with a wide range of everyday necessities. It includes a supermarket, post office, beauty and healthcare retailers, a bank, travel agents, florists and several food and drink outlets.

The oldest café in the area is the Curtin Milk Bar. Little has changed since it first opened its doors in the 1970s and is still popular with the locals.
