History

Founded in 1922, Braddon is one of Canberra’s oldest suburbs. It’s named for Sir Edward Braddon, who played a big role in the writing of the Australian constitution. Braddon began life as an industrial suburb, with several auto companies calling the area home. It’s since undergone heavy redevelopment, and now serves as a centre for arts, retail and entertainment.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Braddon features numerous shops, restaurants and attractions. It also has many Heritage sites, such as Hotel Ainslie and The Braddon Garden City Heritage Precinct. Haig Park sits in the middle of the suburb. It stretches from the eastern border and all the way across into neighbouring Turner. The Gorman House Arts Centre is a large complex stuffed with theatres and galleries. Braddon’s most popular eateries include 80/20, Black Fire, Burger Hero, and the Hamlet.
