Belconnen is one of Canberra’s inner suburbs. It is a largely residential area with lots of open parkland and facilities including Lake Ginninderra. According to the 2011 census, its population is over 4,400 people.

History

Belconnen is part of the larger district of Belconnen. This links back to the time of the early European settlers.

One of the features of life in Canberra is that each area has street names reflecting Australian culture. In Belconnen, roads take their names from Lord Mayors.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The small town of Belconnen is home to one of the region’s largest shopping centres, the Belconnen Mall, as well as three bus stations.

It is also the home of three large Government agencies, a number of restaurants and retail outlets.

Lake Ginninderra is home to varied wildlife including black swans, moorhens and ducks.
