Based in Canberra, Aranda is a suburb in Belconnen. It lies at the foot Black Mountain and bush surrounds the area. According to the 2011 census, Aranda has a population of 2,483 people.

History

Aranda takes its name from the Arrernte tribe. Formerly known as Arunta, the word means “White Cockatoo”. Gazetted in 1967, Aranda is Belconnen’s first suburb to be settled.

In 2003, Aranda established Canberra’s first Community Fire unit. This program trains residents on firefighting techniques.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Aranda is a lush and leafy suburb. Many native trees, such as eucalypts, surround the area. The town has various community facilities. There are two primary schools, one pre-school, and two churches. Sporty locals enjoy playing in the baseball and soccer fields.

In terms of shopping, the Aranda shops are being renovated as we speak. In the meantime, there is a café with outdoor seating.

Aranda is a suburb with strong community ties. Groups like the Friends of Aranda Bushland and the Aranda Residents Group are active.
